Hi All, Anybody else having problems with Comcast connections?  It seems that I lose my cable connection every evening like clockwork.  It magically reappears in the morning.   Comcast customer service is clueless.

(apologies in advance if this post offends anyone for being off-topic, but there doesn't seem to be a Vonage or VOIP newsgroup, and I know there is a lot of telco and internet provider knowledge here)      I'm on the verge of taking the VOIP plunge, most likely with Vonage.  Can anyone answer the following questions regarding this service? 1) If I have a metro number (one that has a wider inbound and outbound calling area) ported to Vonage is the increased calling area retained? This wouldn't be much of a factor for outbound calls since I'd be getting unlimited long-distance service, but it could affect somebody in say,Plano, wishing to call me here in Arlington as a local call.   How about with a standard number.  Is there a map of calling areas somewhere? 2) Are VOIP numbers published in the local directories and made available through directory assistance?  Can they be made unlisted and/or non-published? 3) I currently have SBC's Anonymous Call Rejection and Privacy Manager features to weed out solicitors and unidentified callers.  Is there something equivalent for VOIP?  For Vonage?  (Yes, I'm familiar with CID spoofing services.) TIA, mdh

TIA, mdh I'm also in the market for VOIP, & I see Vonage (ads & equipment) everywhere, but I Googled 'compare voip' & clicked the 1st _link_ there on the top, & I see Vonage was at least 3rd or 4th in line below other (voip) providers, such as 'packet8' & 'lingo'. The Packet8 provider had a good promo, and 'lingo' had a somewhat decent promo, & I didn't see any promo's for 'Vonage', & their prices were more expensive. The 'Packet8' was rated highest. So, I guess what I'm looking for is who has the best price, provides the best 911 service (such as 'eTrue 911'), the best fax capabilities, no cancellation fee(s), & little or no equipment charges, etc. I don't want a dedicated fax line, necessarily, but I do fax from home on occasion, maybe a few times a month max. So, what's my question here? Well, I guess I just want some feedback on who they'd recommend for the North Dallas (south central Plano, 972) area in particular, please. BTW, we're getting Comcast in a few days (whenever the self-install kit decides to arrive), & will probably go to Verizon's FIOS once it's ready in a few weeks (hopefully), and we want to run the VOIP over the Comcast & then the FIOS. The guys just finished laying down the FIOS lines here a week or 2 ago. (at least, I think (& hope) they're done).  Thanx a bunch.
