Samir, It should NOT be illegal to route calls from a PBX whether VOIP or not. Are you sure it is so in India? If so, it seems an asinine limitation. Please note that this discursion is a generic solution and must be viewed in the larger context of scalability. Setting up an OpenSource PBS is not trivial, and so I would only recommend it if there is an interest and larger benefit than just forwarding. Having your own exchange allows you to do many interesting things

Hi Sanjay, Good at least some topics tickle people to write down sometimes at least. This VOIP telephony is not experimental ,Its proven and very economically viable. I can call u in Australia (Landline )for 0.5 Eurocent/min say 35paise Isn't that great??? Give me your landline no I will call you. Calls to USA UK NZ even Australia can be free. Regards. best australian voip provider Hi

You need the heuristics and programmability of a PBX solution. You could run a local OpenSource PBX (like Asterix on Linux) on your local Indian server, which will forward your call to any number of your choice (in this case your US landline or US cellphone). 1. X calls the local Indian number 2. Local Indian number is set to forward all calls to your PBX 3. PBX receives the forwarded call 4. A rule on the server sets up a transparent forward to the US number 5. US phone (landline or cell) rings 6. Call is connected Jayanth On Jun 2, 7:52 pm, Manoj Joshi <joshi.ma...@gmail.com wrote: No, it's not for me, it's for Smitha (my wife) who needs an Indian number, but when she visits the US, she does not want to lose calls made on her Indian number. I thought the big advantage of GSM is that it's satellite _base_d and hence international roaming would be cheaper. -Manoj On Mon, Jun 1, 2009 at 11:40 PM, Anand Dorairaj <adorai...@gmail.com wrote: Samir, Great idea.. except call centric does not have a India calling number... The best thing Manoj - would be to get yourself a pre-paid connection (sim card + GSM phone) when you are visiting India.. You could share that number with the folks you would like to establish contact and specify the duration of your stay in India (or presume an autoanswer on your normal mail with the India number works?).. The pre paid phone number is for keeps (as along as you renew every six months with atleast Rs. 200 of talk time)... Presume this is a simpler solution??? Keep life simple folks and do not get embroiled into technicalities leading to edge of technology fronts which are still in development stage and not economically exploited in other parts of the globe. Of course economics drives towards effective technological innovations, but building network which requires periodical assistance from external experts does seem a complex solution. But do keep us lesser IT savvy updated in process when these schemes become economically viable. Cheers from Down Under! exists. But this is good information. Somebody out there is going to make $10m on this (I hope it's you!). I would be a happy customer, but I think you need a million of me. -Manoj On Wed, Jun 3, 2009 at 3:39 AM, Jayanth <google.v...@thirumalai.com wrote: You need the heuristics and programmability of a PBX solution.
