to get those wireless phones either. I just plugged the Vonage phone line into the wall, went outside and unplugged the incoming Verizon line from the box (oh God did that feel good) and presto, all the phones in the house are online just like the old land line. E-911 is not a problem as when you set it up; you input the address you want to show up on the 911 dispatchers screen. Did it, been there, talked to dispatch. As far as the phone line going down, well, my landline went down from time to time as well, so I don't see what the big deal is. Besides, even if my internet connection goes down or the electricity goes off, Vonage automatically forwards all my calls to a number of my choice, be it cell phone, work phone, whatever. I don't know about you folks living in India, but here in the US, my electricity is on 99% of the time and usually when it goes down is only down for an hour or two. I'm not worried about the 1 in a million time when the electricity goes down and the cell towers go down, just so I can still order Pizza when the lights are out. It's a non-issue. I didn't get the unlimited plan, even though I have four kids in the house. We get 500 outgoing minutes a month (incoming is free) and last month was the first time we went over. My bill with taxes was $18.70. A far cry from the $60+/month I was paying with Verizon. I had more service and equipment related problems with Verizon than I could stand. When I could get to someone, they usually were rude, indifferent or worse, incompetent. No offense, but from what I can see, the folks who are dogging VoIP have never had it; don't know how to use it or a combination of both. Stay with your landline, we need people who pay full retail. Agreed!

We've had Vonage for 6 months and not a single problem. You don't have to get those wireless phones either. A local consumer advocate who loves to jump on poor service gives Vonage a A+ for service, has heard of NO COMPLAINTS FROM ANY VONAGE USERS, and has heard of no problems with 911 since the have implemented the new service. Well, of course. If you have Vonage, you can't get a dial tone so you can't call anyone to complain! :} Of course, that 4explains it. The worse part is once you get Vonage, you can't call in to MaBell to change service, it is a catch 22 of the worst kind. Hell, what would you add?

Harry, Since most phones have speed dial, you really only have to dial 1 number. In most cities 911 services operates the same with VOIP as it does with MA Bell, those who live in God's Country don't have that option, yet. When I set up my VOIP my 911 service requested that I call them to verify that they had the correct info. MaBell needs competition to keep them at the best. If it was not for competition, you would still be paying $2.50/min to call LA. Do you remember when your long distance bills were over $500 and you had to YELL into the phone on all long distance calls? VOIP will be good for your service even if you don't use the service. When I discontinued MA Bell for local service they were as snotty as they could be. I requested they physically disconnect their system at the junction box, from my phone line, so I would not connected to their power supply. This would allow me to use the telephone lines in my home for my VOIP phones. They told me they would not do that, and if I did it, they would prosecute me for tampering with their system. Since I live in a condo, and did not want to tamper with any wires after it left their junction box, Hell will freeze over before I go back to MaBell. Luckily, my service has been nearly perfect. The only thing I have had to do, which I believe is related to my ISP is occasionally reboot my ISP and telephone modem. Clark Howard, a consumer advocate, has received nothing but POSITIVE feedback on Vonage. While Sunrocket is not quiet as good, it is still highly rated. Who says Sunrocket isn't as good as Vonage? Of course, since I'm only paying 2/3rds of Vonage, I'm happy with a little less (if such is the case)!
